Gulgong Family Fun Carnival 2019

Gulgong Polocrosse Carnival 2019

Family Fun at Gulgong

The Gulgong Polocrosse Carnival marked the inaugural running of our Family Fun Competitions. Of the seven teams entered, there were three teams who managed to field three generations of family members; the Hughes Hustlers from Yass, the Andersons (including NSWPA President Arch Anderson) and Gulgong stalwarts, the Scifleets. The Three Generations competition was taken out by the Anderson family. Individual generational awards were won by John Scifleet, Ryan Slater and Hallie Hogden.

Four teams contested the Open Families title; the Turnbulls, the Stuarts, the Hollows and a combined Hayden/Wall team. This competition was won by the Stuarts in a close final against the Turnbulls. Jock Stuart and Rosie Turnbull took out the individual awards in this division.

There were sub-juniors and juniors competing against seniors and masters across the family teams, which is a true testament to the inclusive nature of our great sport. The competition was played in  great spirit over the entire weekend and we hope to see more families enter teams in 2020. We would like to thank the NSWPA for allowing family members from different clubs to play together, enabling us to initiate this competition. We would also like to thank the Mid-Western Regional Council for their sponsorship of this division.

There were another 23 teams competing for the Open, Mixed, Junior and Sub-Junior titles in he regular carnival. Bunnan proved too strong for Lake George in the A Open and Cassilis took out the B Open over Sydney. Cameron Hill and Ethan Patrick won the individual awards in these grades.

The Ladies’ competition was taken out by Muswellbrook over the local Gulgong girls’ team. The Dunedoo section defeated the Bunnan section in the juniors, with the individual prize going to Jack Deutscher. The sub-juniors had a great time over the weekend as they always seem to, with Dunedoo winning this grade as well.

Encouragement awards went to Amy Rouse and Jake Deshon. The Champion Junior Player was Mitchell Keith, the Champion Lady Player was Vicki Symons and the Champion Gentleman Player was Brian Honeyman. Champion Ladies’ Horse went to Sally Thompson and the Champion Gents’ Horse recipient was Greg Davidge.

We’re looking forward to a big roll up of family teams next year so get six, or even three, of your family members together, and remember why we love to play this great game.
