Bluegate at Moulamein and Pretty Pine

Bluegate held their annual carnival at Moulamein. It was a miserable and cold weekend as most would of agree but with having only 8 teams it was still a great weekend of polocrosse with strong competition in both A and B Grade. A great turnout for the Blue Bandage competition also.

The B Grade final was a great competitive game with a lot of talent shown by all players, Bluegate defeating BarBank in a tough game. Jack Plant, Ben Liphuyzen and Daniel Liphuyzen from Bluegate winning Best Section and Leah Ann Boyle from Barkool winning Best Horse and Rider.

Barkool and Pool 1 made up of Jugiong, Sale and Trafalgar players were the game of the day in the A Grade final. Some serious talent from all players was shown in this game and it was a close game throughout. Hayley Weston from Pool 1 showed Barkool what goal scoring skills she had and was too quick for the SWR boys, taking out the win against Barkool. Best Section being awarded to Hayley Weston, Ian Jolly and Todd Weston and George Anthony winning Best Horse and Rider. Every year at Moulamein Bluegate have an award for the Best Local Player of the Carnival sponsored by Banyandah Pastoral Company which was once Bluegate Station, this award was given to our own Bluegate member and Secretary Samantha Bailey.

Best Local player Sammie

Bluegate held the Gum Creek Carnival this year at Pretty Pine and what a great weekend it was, the weather was perfect and we were lucky to get a few players join us from SWS and a team from VIC. With a few players doubling up we got 9 teams together between the A and B Grade competition, it was a fun and casual weekend in the red sand. The Blue Bandage Competition saw a few new faces on the field over the duration of the weekend.

It was a nail biting B Grade final on Sunday afternoon, between Ballarat and Tumbarumba ending the 4th and final chukka with a draw. Coming out for chukka number 5, Tumbarumba getting possession of the ball and scoring a goal to win the game. Bluegate section Jack Plant, Ben Liphuyzen and Daniel Liphuyzen winning Best Section and Indy Gray from Ballarat winning Best Horse and Rider.

The A Grade competition was played as a round robin, with Jugiong taking out the win and Bluegate coming runners up. Jugiong players Sam Amey and Laura Beer teamed up with Sally Liphuyzen from Ballarat winning the Best Section and Sam Amey winning Best Horse and Rider.

Being such a small zone and club it was muchly appreciated to have those who travelled so far to be apart of our carnival, without the numbers and support from our amazing sponsors, running a carnival is not possible.
