Thank you to outgoing board members, Arch Anderson, Corey Ireland and Gary Stevenson for their time, effort and positive contribution to our sport.
Obviously COVID-19 has had a devastating impact across the world, on our country, and the 2020 Polocrosse season. We managed to run 2 carnivals, Lake George and Inverell, and the Nationals Squad Training weekend at Coolah before being shut down. We have no crystal ball but are hopeful that we will be able to have some form of polocrosse toward the end of 2020.
Whilst some members have been asking about potential refund of player fees, the Board request that members remain patient whilst the State and PAA considers the long term viability of our sport. We are monitoring what is an ever evolving situation and considering all avenues for cost savings.
Unfortunately we have had to stand down the SEO, Vicki Grant, for financial reasons. The Board regrets that this difficult decision had to be made and thanks Vicki sincerely for her contribution to the sport over the last two years. Club and Zone Secretaries are still able to make contact through seo@nswpolocrosse.com.au and the SEO phone 0407 207 649. Phone and email are currently being monitored by members of the Board.
The Board believes that whilst there is not going to be any opportunities for play over the coming months it does provide the opportunity for online development of administrators, umpires, coaches and players. We encourage our members and officials to think outside the square when it comes to promoting and continuing engagement with our polocrosse community.
First cab of the rank is to run a number of online "Administrators Courses" in the north of the state. See article below for information.
The Nationals Squad Training weekend held in Coolah over the weekend of 29/30 February was an outstanding success. Congratulations to Director of Coaching, Christie Hunt and her team of coaches on a very productive and enjoyable weekend. Given its success, it is proposed to run similar state training weekends on a more regular basis. The Board would welcome suggestions and input on how to incorporate more training and development weekends such as this into the annual calendar. The intent would be for these type of events to be extended to a wider range of players in the future.
Thank you to Murray Henderson from the Dunedoo Club for his extensive work in the preparation of the fields and grounds for the weekend. The facilities were fantastic and the fields played very well.
An Administrators Workshop was held in January at Yass for those in the south of the state. Workshops were to be scheduled for the northern part of the state but obviously can no longer go ahead in the traditional format. It is proposed that the first in a series of online workshops will be held via ZOOM video conferencing during April. Topics to be covered include:
- Online database training
- Active Kids redemptions
- Insurance FAQ
- Structure and function of the PAA / PANSW relationship
- General club secretary/administrator FAQ
Interested participants can contact Kaylene Wilson to arrange training schedules.
